Cola Chicken

Hello people of the earth! I’m back with another cooking adventure~~ and today, i shall tell you how to cook Cola Chicken…. my way…. ;p

I still remember vaguely hearing about the existence of using coca-cola to cook chicken but have never really tasted it before…. 1 day, I decided to search the net for some recipes but most of it contain ingredients which I cannot easily get, in this God forsaken place…. *frustration of a wannabe cook*

So, I decided to device my own recipe, of course having the 2 main ingredients which are chicken and cola… I have tried the recipe twice, 1st time was not a success (I wouldn’t call it a failure since it was still edible), it turned out to taste more like soy sauce chicken…. 2nd time turned out yummy! The chicken was not too dry, and it has a tinge of caramel-like sweetness, thanks to the amount of sugar contained in coca-colas…

Ingredients :

Chicken (whichever part you love), I prefer boneless experience, so I bought 2 pieces of breast meat and cut into little cubes…. 😀

1 can of coca-cola

Salt, pepper, dark sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, chinese cooking wine (last 4 as below)

As with all chinese style cooking, the above seasoning amount is up to your taste preference…. simple eh….

Steps :

If your chicken was kept frozen, bring it down to defrost first…. If not, then you can proceed to sprinkle some salt & pepper unto the chicken, massage them evenly over all the chicken….

then add 1 tbs of soy sauce, 3/4 tbs of sesame oil, 1 tsp of dark sauce and 1 tsp of chinese cooking wine…. Pour in the whole can of cola and mix well….

2Make sure you have enough juice to let the chicken swim in it… not that it can literally swim… :p

Cover the bowl and let it marinade in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours (the longer the better, but not overnight >.< )

*tick tock tick tock*

Pick out the chicken and place them on a dry plate to let excess water drip off while you prepare the wok with hot boiling oil to deep fry the chicken… Place the fried chicken on a kitchen towel to drain any excess oil while you clean off the wok from all the burnt debris….

pour in the marinade sauce into the wok and let it heat up till bubbling then gently put the chicken in (lest you want hot sauce splashing all over @@)…. Let it boil till almost 98% of the liquid has dried up…. By this time, what you will see is a shiny surface over your chicken…. Not too dry and not too wet… 🙂

4mmm…. smells good and ready to be eaten…. ^^ Pardon the lack of colour and decoration…. It was just a simple meal with friends….

Hope this helps in your cooking adventure…. ^^ do comment below if you have tried it or if you have tried any other modifications…. haha…

♥ happy trying
